Scrapbooking Global Blog Hop September 2021

Welcome! We have another great theme challenge for this month. Thanks to our scrapbooking Global Design Team Member Delys Cram for coming up with the challenge "Scrap The Boys." It's been awhile since I have created a masculine themed page focused on just the "boys". I was rummaging through some of my old pictures and stumbled upon a fun Summer day my family spent in Lodgepole, NE. One of the pictures showcases my Grandpa and his friend observing a tractor pull. My Grandpa loved competing in Tractor Pulls. I attended several when I was a kid. He would travel a hundred miles to compete in one! I also included a picture of his red Farmall Tractor. This tractor or "Red" as he would call it, was his pride and joy. He always loved giving each of the grandkids a ride after the event was over.

I started with a 12" x 12" sheet of Basic White cardstock.  I selected one of the woodgrain designs from the In Good Taste DSP pack and trimmed it down to 5" x 12".  Adhere this layer vertically to the base. Next, I selected another fun design from the same paper pack. The blue design spoke to me, because it adds color from the men's "Blue Jeans".  I trimmed this piece down to 6-1/2" x 9" and adhered it towards the center of the page. I intentionally left the right hand side unglued. Read below to find out why.

Doesn't this tile background remind you of a bandana print? Thanks to fellow demonstrator Erica Cerwin for the inspiration. It's very simple to create. I used the Today's Tile stamp set which recently retired. I highly recommend using a Stamparatus for exact tile image placement. I stamped the inside image first using Memento Black Ink on a piece of Basic White cardstock. Next, I stamped the outer image using Real Red Ink. I tucked this layer underneath the blue patterned In Good Taste DSP.

Lodgepole, NE is a small farm town. Ever heard the saying "if you blink you will miss it"? Well, that pretty much holds true when you are traveling by. There is no grocery store. Only a Post Office and gas station. The town itself has less than fifty residents. The Union Pacific Railroad runs on the outskirt of the town. Every once awhile you can hear the train whistle sounding the alarm for the crossing to enter into the town.

Sadly, my Grandpa passed away in 2019. I miss him terribly and think about him everyday. The reason I included the farm elements was to help remind me of his simple farm town life. The windmill was die cut from the Open Range Dies. I cut one in Early Espresso and another one in Smoky Slate. I trimmed the bottom off of the Smoky Slate and adhered it to the Early Espresso Die Cut. I die cut two fences in Sahara Sand cardstock using the Sheep Dies. You can earn the Sheep Dies FREE with any Stampin' Up! purchase of $50 or more through the month of September. The grass was die cut from the Basic Borders Dies using Old Olive cardstock.

The title was die cut in Real Red cardstock using the Playful Alphabet Dies. I hope you like the page I created for the blog hop. Sometimes simplicity is often best.
