SCRAPBOOKING GLOBAL BLOG HOP JULY 2021

Happy July! There's been so many exciting things happening this month. My family and I celebrated our first fourth of July in our new home. The district put on an amazing fireworks show over TPC Golf Course. We also got to watch the Korn Ferry PGA Tour play the following weekend. This was my first time watching a LIVE golf tournament.

For this month's theme challenge we could include all Four Seasons or simply pick one. I sorted through some old photographs of my daughter and stumbled upon this one of her in the pool. I loved the colorful flowers found on her swimsuit so that helped get my creative juices flowing.

This week's theme challenge was created by the talented Sharni Haines. Thanks again for coming up with this fun challenge.

In the past, I have created several cards using the Sunburst Technique. However, I thought I would give it a try for this week's scrapbook challenge. I ventured over to Pinterest and found a tutorial that helped guide me step-by-step on how to create this fun layout. I probably should have paid better attention to the cutting guidelines because my pieces didn't all fit together exactly like the diagram. No worries! I remembered you can easily improvise as long as you focus on where the tips of the paper will eventually meet. This was towards the bottom center of the page for me.

TIP: You can easily rotate the page counter clockwise to have the focal point in the upper left hand corner if you desire.

Current 12" x 12" DSP used:

  • Hand Penned
  • Pattern Party Hostess
Retired 12" x 12" DSP used:
  • Myths and Magic

This picture is an easy reference on how my scrapbook page started out. First, I picked five DSP designs that I thought coordinated well with the picture I chose for the layout. I also selected a 12" x 12" piece of Basic White cardstock as my base. Next, I cut the designs in different sizes using the cutting guidelines I found specifically from the tutorial. To assemble the page, I started with the upper left hand corner and strategically placed each of the pieces working around the entire page.

Once all the pieces are placed to your liking, go back and carefully adhere each design to the base leaving approximately 1/8" gap between pieces. Then I flipped the base over and cut off  the excess using the cardstock as my guide. Once complete, it will look similar to the photo I posted above. Don't worry about the pieces overlapping towards the center. A 4" x 6" photo will help cover it.

As I mentioned above, I used my daughter's swimsuit as my color guide to create these fun flowers. I stamped the (large) flower image from the Flowers of Friendship Stamp Set in Crushed Curry, Melon Mambo, Highland Heather, and Pale Papaya onto the coordinating cardstock. I did this twice so I could layer the images on top of each other to create a full flower as shown above. Next, punch the images out using the coordinating Flowers and Leaves punch. I stamped the leaves tone on tone using Pear Pizzazz. Adhere each of the flowers and leaves using dimensionals on to the base.

I stamped the title in Memento Black Ink on Basic White cardstock using the recently retired Make a Difference Stamp Set.

For the last step, I added 2021-2023 In Color Jewels to the center of the flowers. That's it! This was such a fun and impactful page. I hope you consider giving the Sunburst Layout a try.

Fun mix and match of patterns for your summer sunburst! Picks up your daughter's swimsuit perfectly.
This technique worked out great for the scrapbook page. I love how you pointed out the flexibility if your cuts weren't quite 'perfect'. I hate to waste good paper!! Lovely page. Thanks for sharing.
