Technique Tuesday! Watercolor Ombre
IT'S TECHNIQUE TUESDAY! This week's technique is called Watercolor Ombre.
Definition: Ombre is a gradation of color from light to dark.
1. Select about 3 colors of ink in dark, medium, and light tones of the same basic color, such as 3 shades of purple. Or 3 colors that are adjacent on the color wheel, such as yellow, orange, and red.
I choose the following 3 shades of purple: Elegant Eggplant, Perfect Plum, and Wisteria Wonder.
2. Place Watercolor Paper on a paper towel to absorb excess water. Wet down a piece of Watercolor Paper with the Aqua Painter and water so the surface is completely wet. This allows the colors to flow smoothly.
3. Squeeze closed ink pads to get color on inside of the lid. Open and use color to paint with.
4. Paint 1/3 of the paper with the darkest color, the center 1/3 with the medium color, and the last 1/3 with the lightest color. Only blend slightly between colors to keep the obvious gradation common to ombre.
Watercolor Ombre is a great effect for all types of projects. It also makes a great background for stamped or heat embossed images and silhouette images!
